How to Add Guidelines to a Process

A process becomes easier to follow when each step contains the information employees need at the moment they perform the work. Add Guidelines to a Process in Enforcium to attach internal instructions or useful resources directly to an Action Step.

What are Guidelines in Enforcium?

Guidelines are additional instructions or resources attached to a specific Action Step within a process. They give employees more context about how a particular step should be completed.

There are two options:

Create guideline

Create an internal instruction directly in Enforcium.

Add link

Add a link to an internal or external resource.

Guidelines work alongside the other Action Step settings, such as Responsible positions, Process Stage, Value Impact Status, Linked metrics, and Description. Together, these fields provide the information needed to understand and complete the step.

When to add Guidelines

Guidelines are useful whenever an Action Step requires additional knowledge, instructions, or supporting material.

A guideline can contain:

  • internal rules or instructions;
  • templates employees need to use;
  • reference documents;
  • links to internal systems;
  • external resources;
  • detailed information that supports the step.

Keep the main process structure concise. Add deeper instructions where employees need them.

For example, a finance process could include a Review expense request step with a guideline containing the company approval rules and a link to the relevant expense form. The employee can open the resource directly from the step while completing the work.

How to add a guideline to a process step

Open the required process and switch to Edit mode. Select the Action Step where you want to add supporting information.

In the Guidelines section, click the + icon.

How Guidelines appear on an Action Step

After you create a guideline or add a link, it appears in the Guidelines section of the Action Step.

Each resource is displayed as a separate item. Employees can open the relevant instruction or resource directly from the process step.

This creates a practical connection between the documented process and the knowledge required to perform it. The employee can access the relevant information at the point where the work happens.
